Dental Insurance

Dental Insurance

Studies show there is a link between good oral hygiene and a person’s overall health. The cost of dental treatment has escalated, making it difficult for many to pay for extensive dental treatment.  As a result, it has become increasingly more valuable for employers to offer dental benefits to their employees.

The Iowa Bankers Benefit Plan (IBBP) has a long history of providing cost-effective dental insurance benefits to the employees of participating employers and their dependents. Participation in the IBBP is limited to employers that are financial institutions domiciled in the State of Iowa and their branches located outside the State of Iowa.

Delta Dental of Iowa administers dental claims for the IBBP. Ninety-three percent of Iowa’s dentists participate with Delta Dental. Delta Dental of Iowa is part of the national Delta Dental Plan Association, which allows IBBP members access to a national network of dentists who participate with Delta Dental.

Iowa Bankers Insurance and Services, Inc. (IBIS) manages all the administrative functions for the dental plan, including customer service. IBIS contracts with Delta Dental for provider service contracting and claims processing.

Delta Dental Premier Dental Plan

The IBBP offers three Delta Dental Premier dental plans with a broad range of coverage and various co-payment amounts, deductible levels, and premiums. Depending on the plan, covered charges may include:

  • Check-ups and teeth cleanings

  • Enhanced benefits allowing additional teeth cleaning based on a medical diagnosis

  • Cavity repair and tooth extractions

  • High-cost fillings and root canals

  • Dentures and bridges

  • Teeth straightening (orthodontia)

  • Gum and bone diseases

The features of Delta Dental’s Premier Dental Plan include:

  • This dental plan is designed to help contain dental costs by encouraging preventive care.

  • The key component of the Delta Dental Premier program is its panel of participating dentists. Members can receive care from almost any dentist they wish, but there are advantages when they receive services from Delta Dental dentists. How much members pay for covered services depends on the benefit category of the service received and the dentist from which services are received. It is usually to the member’s financial advantage to receive services from a Delta Dental dentist.

  • More than 90% of Iowa’s dentists—and three out of four dentists nationwide—are Delta Dental participants. These participating dentists agree to accept the allowed amount as payment in full for covered services once deductibles and coinsurance amounts are met. They’ll even file members’ claims. A full list of network providers is provided on the Delta Dental of Iowa website at www.deltadentalia.com.

  • While members can visit non-participating dentists, those providers are not required to accept the allowed amount as payment in full. Delta Dental will forward the benefit payment for a non-participating dentist directly to the member, and he or she is responsible for paying the dentist’s bill in full.

  • All three Delta Dental benefit designs offered through the IBBP (Plan I, Plan II, and Plan III) include Delta Dental’s Enhanced Benefits Program. The Enhanced Benefits Program links medical conditions and oral health by offering additional dental benefits to members with the medical conditions listed below. To receive the additional dental benefits, members must enroll in the Enhanced Benefits Program through the Subscriber Connection on the Delta Dental of Iowa website at www.deltadentalia.com or their dentist can enroll them in the program.

    • Pregnancy
    • Diabetes
    • Advanced periodontal disease
    • High-risk cardiac conditions
    • Suppressed immune system
    • Kidney failure or dialysis
    • Cancer related chemotherapy and/or radiation

  • As an added benefit of Delta Dental coverage, participants receive a vision discount through the EyeMed Program.
