Event Detail

Event Description

Due to the ongoing pandemic, we are going to convert the conference into a four-part webinar series. Since there is no live event this year, we wanted to provide you the opportunity to hear some of the great speakers. IBA is presenting four webinars to share conference content. There are several sessions that would be great for managers and your entire team at the bank. There is also content just for HR professionals, including employment law hot topics and compensation trends.

If you are registered for the 2020 IBA Human Resources Conference, there is no action required to participate in the webinar series. You will receive confirmations for individual webinars prior to each.

Lead: Overcome the Traps that are Holding Your Results & Your People Back
Kathy Peterson, People Works, Storm Lake
Thursday, June 25 • 10:00 – 11:00 am
Kathy’s message is perfect for your bank’s management team. Invite managers to participate or share the recording with them.
When business is going well, when you have a great team, and when everything’s running smoothly, it’s easy to lead.  Your leadership is put to the test when things aren’t perfect (which, for some of us, is a majority of the time!).  There are some common traps that hold us back from getting amazing results and hold our team back from peak performance. In this program, we will cover how best to avoid the following traps (complete with tips, tools, and techniques):

Allowing poor behavior or performance because, “That’s just Kathy, that’s just how she is”!

Thinking that being fair and consistent means treating everyone exactly the same.   (Let’s get pizza for the whole team!)

Coming around only when something has gone wrong.  (It’s a bad thing for others to see your name on Caller ID or have someone in your office with the door closed.)

Allowing team members to have meetings after meetings to avoid conflict during the meetings.

Leading performance as a once a year event. (You are a working manager and lead people, too.  Leadership is an afterthought.)

Thinking employee beliefs don’t really impact actions, results, and goal achievement.  (Keep in mind that changing what an employee believes is key to changing employee behavior.)

Employment Law Hot Topics
Bryan O’Neill, Dickinson Law, Des Moines
Thursday, July 2 • 10:00 – 11:00 am
Learn more about current legal issues in employment law – sexual harassment, leave, wage and hour, mental health, and more. This session will cover topics that have been in the court over that last year that may affect your bank.

Benefit Trends and Total Compensation Benchmarking
Nicole Pfeiffer and Matt ShefchikCottingham Butler, Dubuque
Thursday, July 9 • 10:00 – 11:00 am
Recruiting difficulty has continued to increase over the last five years and competition for talent is high.  To attract and retain top talent, organizations must leverage their benefits package.  Annually, the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM) conducts is survey of U.S. employers to gather information on employee benefit programs. The findings report, which we will cover in this session, examines the prevalence of benefits over the past five years to track trends.  Join us to learn more about what other employers are implementing within their benefits strategy to remain competitive in the current talent marketplace.

Failing Forward to Success
Alex Weber
Thursday, July 16 • 10:00 – 11:00 am

More so, Alex knows how you can use failures to propel forward and hit your goals.
